State College, Pennsylvania

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 38m 30s
Overall Rank = 92/142
Age Group = F40-49
Age Group Rank = 10/15
Pre-race routine:

We stayed at a hotel in Williamsport so we got up pretty early and drove to State College. I ate my bagel in the car. Leslie knew exactly what she was doing so we zipped right into town and parked in the garage near the pool. We walked over to packet pickup and then came back for the bikes. Set up transition and had plenty of time to spare to hit the restroom and relax a little bit before the pre-meet meeting.
Event warmup:

Not much. I did get in a swim part way down the lane and back just to get the feel for the pool.
Swim
  • 16m 32s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had a great swim - loved the long course pool. I passed one guy twice, but otherwise barely noticed any other swimmers.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - I was VERY pleased with this swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

I didn't hurry here. I knew my time wasn't going to be spectacular and wasn't sure how the ankle would hold up. Was pleasantly surprised to see the time was as low as it was.
What would you do differently?:

Not much given the circumstances. Had I been in better shape, I probably would've hurried more.
Bike
  • 47m 54s
  • 12.42 miles
  • 15.56 mile/hr
Comments:

This was an OK bike - wasn't pushing too hard.
What would you do differently?:

Bike more!
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Wasn't hurrying much here either. Did OK - was a little thrown off because somebody else's bike was in Leslie's spot. Weird...
What would you do differently?:

Again same as T1, I wouldn't have done much differently under these circumstances. Had I been in better shape, I probably would've hurried more.
Run
  • 31m 7s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew I was going to struggle here, but it didn't end up being as bad as I thought. I just kept telling myself to run to the first mile, then it was just run to the water stop, then the turn around, and before I knew it, I was done! Was far from fast, but this was the furthest I had run in quite a while.
What would you do differently?:

Run more!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little and then went back out to the road to watch for Leslie.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury and lack of training It was good for me to get out an do something though. Hopefully this will motivate me to get back to training more.

Event comments:

This was a fun, low key race, and I loved the pool swim. It would be a good one for someone just getting into triathlons.

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.
