Sunny
Total Time = 1h 11m
Overall Rank = 94/371
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/38
Pre-race routine:

Much easier this time by staying close to the race overnight. Definitely did not sleep well at all and that affected my race for sure!
Event warmup:

Nothing, got in the water and waded around.
Swim
  • 08m 29s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim felt a lot easier than the previous three races I've done here but I ended up 3 seconds slower than my fastest time.
What would you do differently?:

Train first
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Had to go back to the rack because my shoe clipped my neighbors setup and I didn't want to leave his gear strewn about everywhere. That cost me a couple of seconds there.
What would you do differently?:

Try to be cleaner exiting Transition.
Bike
  • 34m 22s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.20 mile/hr
Comments:

****Will have to come back to this after the T2 split becomes available online.
What would you do differently?:

I think my stressful week and the bad night's sleep really had an affect on me for this race. I did not have that extra gear or ability to push the pace and really compete. The bike leg was definitely affected.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

****Will have to come back to this after the T2 split becomes available online.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe having a hand towel would be beneficial despite the time cost. I seemed to have trouble with my socks this time due to my wet feet.
Run
  • 24m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to hang tough by "racing" my previous PR time on this course using my watch settings. I immediately felt low-energy and knew I would not have the extra gear needed to put down the hammer.
I did have one goal to try and catch my closest competitor on the overall points list and I think I actually did it so there's a good takeaway.
What would you do differently?:

Just prep better during the week leading up to raceday.
Post race
Warm down:

Took on water and watermelon slices and cooled down pretty well.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my bad prep during the week leading up to the event and the horrible night's sleep that I got. I was not well rested and felt sluggish the entire race.

Event comments:

Great event and theme. Also, being part of a race series, it's great to know you have the same metrics being measured in order to compare all 4 results.

I thought of all the times I didn’t attempt something I wanted to do because I was too afraid of trying something new or of failing completely.

At one of my last swim sessions the week of my first Ironman, one of my training partners told me how she was envious..."your first Ironman is fun, you have no pressure and no expectations!"
