Comments:

Great swim in calm lake. Mass start was fine. Stayed on the shoreline until start.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Transition 1
  • 17m 11s
Comments:

Long run up helix to the changing rooms, took some time getting ready, getting sunscreen and going to the bathroom. Ran with socks on and then put on bike shoes prior to start of bike out. Just a long and difficult transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 7h 04m 27s
  • 112 miles
  • 15.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Took hills well. Great support along the course especially on hills!
What would you do differently?:

More long bike training, and more hill training. Overall did very well for where I was with my fitness! Was hoping to break 7 hours but was close
Transition 2
  • 13m 58s
Comments:

Sore getting off the bike, took a while to figure out what I needed for the run and where my head was at. Got some more sunscreen and went pee.
What would you do differently?:

A little bit more organized and smart before getting into T2. Think as im getting off the bike what do I need.
Run
  • 5h 41m 46s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 13m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice course but hilly in spots. Great support!
What would you do differently?:

Train a bit harder. But I think it was good. Change of shoes during mid-run was helpful!
Post race
Warm down:

Bathroom - #1 and #2, Pizza and stretching, Warm-down massage

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training, but I was very happy with this race, just wanted to finish and came in at least an hour faster than I thought!

Event comments:

Great race in Madison Wisconsin - if there is one that I would do again it would be this one! Great experience!!!!! Love the Midwest!

I'm a fairly good climber but don't want to blow up on the run. I'm 60 and have a FTP of 230 watts. Any suggestions?

I was in the moment, living a dream and on top of the whole world! Honestly, I wish everyone could experience that feeling because it truly cannot be described.

Should I remove the PD Jammers bars and ride it as is, set-up for riding in the drops and hoods? Should I run my Easton Orion II wheels or my Hed Jet60 C2's for IMWI?

If you would have told me that I would want to train over ten hours a week for a race that can last up to 17 hours, I would have laughed. But somehow, my ACL injury has refocused my outlook on life.

It makes no sense to train hard for a year to hone that aerobic system only to have all that training undermined by a few anaerobic bursts on race day. So, how do you go about it?
