Swim
Comments: Lost my breath during the first quarter mile so had to slow down and regain composure. Lost the lead pack due to this and was unable to find someone to draft off of, hehe. I swam about 200 yards longer than I should have??? What would you do differently?: Nothing, I lost some swim fitness and swam 3 times since the bike accident July 4th weekend. Transition 1
Comments: Super long walk back to T1 due to new swim start location. Unable to run using flip flops because I slipped a couple times I so walked fast but in control. Once in transition, getting out of wetsuit was smooth. Rinsed sand off feet, wiped dry as much as possible, put bike socks and shoes on, race belt, Halo headband, Oakleys, helmet. Ran to bike out. Pretty fast T1, hehehe! What would you do differently?: Bring water shoes. Bike
Comments: Wasn't feeling springy all week and got maybe 1 hour of sleep last night? Lactic acid built up earlier than anticipated to hold effort to sub LTHR. Tried to push the watts at that effort but unable to hold it without blowing up. Despite that, I still finished at a decent effort at about half a minute longer than my bike split PR in 2015. 2013 time: 1:14:12 2014 time: 1:12:04 2015 time: 1:07:40; PR! 2016 time: 1:12:02 2017 time: 1:08:07 HR: 72% Z4, 21% Z5 What would you do differently?: Not get injured, hehe. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty fast T2 compared to the years prior, hehehe! I decided not to change socks this year and that saved about a minutes time. What would you do differently?: Don't forget Newskin! Run
Comments: Legs felt heavy at the start of the run course so I may have left too much of myself out on the bike course. It took about 1.25 miles for me to get my legs going. Ran tangents where possible and PR'd on the run course today! :D 2013 time: 54:06 2014 time: 44:36 2015 time: 43:50 2016 time: 48:06 2017 time: 42:23; HR: 24% Z4, 48% Z5; PR! What would you do differently?: Not get injured and do some speed work. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and stretched then walked around some more. Chatted with some finishers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike injury July 4th weekend. :( Event comments: No BBQ again this year but they handed out finisher medals this year, yay! They had bananas, oranges, tasty bars, water (and some other liquid I didn't try). The race awards ceremony was delayed by about 45 minutes due to timing company mishap. >.< It was overcast the entire morning during the race which made for some really good PRs this year. :) Last updated: 2017-02-05 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:20am and made almond butter and honey toasties. Packed them with apple sauce, banana, and water to have at transition. Race officials pointed to where parking for long course triathletes and it was a big lot but when we got there at 6:10am it was blocked for some odd reason. Last year it wasn't when we got there about the same time, grrr. Dropped off transition bag then returned to car to get bike. Returned and set up transition area. Went to race meeting at 6:40am. After that was over I went to take a dump, hehe.
Finalized transition area setup and surveyed the area for ins and outs then got into wetsuit for 8am swim start.
Walked at least a quarter mile to the new swim start which was close to the pier due to erosion. It looked to be about a third of a mile away from transition. >.<
Got into water at 7:50am and got acclimated to the water. It was cooler than Long Beach Bay Shore.
