Subject: Welp. Tick that off the bucket list. Louisville in the can.Just got back from Louisville, proud owner of an $800 (plus hotel, etc ) medal and backpack. I think I'm gonna stick to the sprints, Olympics, and maybe the occasional half if it's in a place that holds some interest to me.
Glad I did it, though. I've never denied being a bucket lister for a full. It's been my Mt. Everest since I was a kid....before I got fat. Loved every minute of it (even the 15-20 and even 30 mph sustained headwinds...with gusts up to 45 for dang near 45 miles? of the ride )....except miles 6-12 on the run. That was my "moment" I had to win. Temps really started plummeting. I knew I had a chucked a $4 Walmart long sleeve throwaway in my special needs...that was my muse for those 5 or so miles. After that and a PB&J, I was much better. I way outperformed my expectations by a half an hour plus.
My run, while the worst of the three legs comparatively, was in some ways my highlight as I did WAY WAY WAY better than I was expecting or even planning. Oddly, my strongest miles were like 18-23. They weren't my fastest, but they were the ones I thought I would really do some serious shuffling. I held a pretty firm trot through them. Which just made me feel amazing.
It's definitely a pretty strong finish line. Deafening and the feeling was worth every moment.
And now to return to a normal life.
