Forgot to circle back here to report that I DID it! My first Tri
(sprint
) is over and done, and I'm not sure if I'll ever do that again
My swim was definitely my strongest phase of the 3 - 6:48 for a 400m open water and I felt like I could have circled back and done that 3 more times instead of continuing to the bike and run ha
My transitions were both very slow, as I was careful in putting my socks & shoes on after the swim to make sure I didn't get any bumps that would cause blisters, and after the bike I was moving slow to transition to the dreaded run.
Bike took a lot longer than expected, it was much hillier than expected and very windy so survival was my main focus. 20k took me 1hr 1 min :/ If I were to do this again I would want to rent a road-bike for the occasion
(used my hybrid - very mountain-y
), as I know that would have helped things - mine is pretty heavy and clunky.
Lastly, the 5k run was definitely more of a walk with a few jogs in it. I was hosed by the end so I just kept thinking about being done more than going fast. I just wanted to finish.
I didn't have a time goal in mind, again, my only goal was to complete it without stopping, and I DID! So I'm happy, even with my time of 2 hours and 3 seconds. If only I could have finished 4 seconds faster to say I did it under two hours!! hahah
But thank you guys for the tips and encouragement. I lurked here for months, not really posting much, but it helped immensely!
Thanks!
Nina
