I did not watch the White House Correspondence Dinner but it was all the talk this weekend. Michelle Wolf’s vulgar attacks of Sarah Sanders was condemned by many and defended by many. I read one article that called her speech a 'gift to the GOP'.

Personally I think the WH press corps did themselves a HUGE disservice. It is my understanding the original intent of the WHCD was to celebrate the Freedom of the Press and honor journalism. Seem do to have devolved into a raunchy comedy club. There is a fine line between playful jabs and vulgar attacks and she sure was on the wrong side of the line.

How anyone defends this is beyond me. If I were a journalists, who are already held in very low esteem, I would totally distance myself from this sort of talk.

"“Trump is so broke,” she quipped, that “Southwest used him as one of their engines.”

Not only is that not funny it is totally inappropriate. I woman died on that Southwest flight and people were terrified.

"She called Vice President Mike Pence a “weirdo”: “He thinks abortion is murder, which, first of all, don’t knock it till you try it. And when you do try it, really knock it. You know, you got to get that baby out of there.”"

No comment on this. Just SMH.

It appears to me that any open mic and a stage has devolved into an opportunity to roast the administration. There's a time and place for everything. I guess it depends on how you were raised, but a formal dinner isn't the place for such antics. Miss Sanders displayed amazing character by sitting through it and I hope she was taking mental notes; just to get a little good natured payback later. She's free to NOT call on anyone during a presser, right?

Trump missed a sweet opportunity on his Twitter feed. Something along the lines of, "WH Correspondents Dinner was tonight? Sorry, I was busy." Then post a pic of himself trimming his toenails.

Didn't read all of this but saw this statement:
"Some People Cling Bitterly to Their Resentments"

Boy, that pretty much summarizes the complete political spectrum in the USA.

I have zero resentment from any President I have lived under.....started voting with Reagan.  Each of them had their good points and bad points.....each were comical in their own way.  BUT......there has NEVER been an electorate as completely insane over a loss as the liberals are since Hillary was beaten by Trump.  I just don't know how it could possibly ever be funnier.  This could be as good as it gets. I'm going to vote for him again just to help keep it going. LOL

It was pretty bad with Bush too. The difference was he never ( last time I made this statement I was pounded on BT) lowered himself into the fray. Pretty much started on day one with the hanging chad nonsense. They relented a bit because 9/11 stunned the country into a sense of decency and pursuit of a common enemy. Then the WMD fail released the hounds once again. War criminal is one of the lowest labels we can affix to a sitting US President IMO. W just didn't come out and point the finger back at all the democrats that voted for the war based on the same intelligence reports. If he did, the press certainly didn't report it.
I'm sure our left leaning friends will feel that Billy C. was persecuted with equal fervor. It's been a political shiiteshow for several decades now and until we get term limits on Congress, it will continue. Heck, DiFi is still looking for payback for events in the Nixon administration.

I care about all people. And no one should ever be subject to the public humiliation of having to sit thru someone insulting you at dinner party while on national TV. The 'comedian' insulted woman and joked about abortions and the liberal 'journalists' and celebrities laughed. Very telling.

"The Hill drops out of future White House Correspondents Dinners: “In short, there’s simply no reason for us to participate in something that casts our profession in a poor light. Major changes are needed to the annual event.”"

“Comedians headlining those dinners were sharp and made fun of both the media and the Commander-in-Chief in a way that could induce laughs while not being so offensive and vulgar that C-SPAN actually cut off its radio broadcast, as was the case this year for the first time ever.”

The WHCD was supposed to honor gifted students in college journalism programs.

Guess The Hill and C-Span are snowflakes, eh Miller? ;-)

Sanders response:

"“I think we’ve had a great first year and a half at doing that. A huge success story that we’re proud of,” Sanders continued. “I hope that she can find some of the same happiness that we all have, because I think she may need a little bit more of that in her life, because the rest of us here are doing great.”"

Smack! I think she perhaps nailed the great divide in the country right now. So many on left seem bitter and angry all the time about everything. I think that comedian (I have already forgotten her name) epitomized that anger and bitterness.
