Subject: RE: Boy Scouts I don't really have an issue with girls joining scouting. I was a cub scout leader when my son was cub scout and there are lots of things I taught them that many girls would equally enjoy. One time I cut up a bunch of wood to make bird houses. I provided the 7 pre-cut pieces (4 sides, bottom and two beveled piece for the gable roof ) and each scout was responsible for gluing and nailing his pieces together and drilling the hole for the dowel for the perch (I had predrilled the big hole for the bird ingress/egress ). They then took the their houses home with them to paint them. 18 years and my son's bird house still hangs outside. There was nothing 'boy' about the project.
I do think, as scouts get older, like 15+ and have testosterone raging in their body, camp outs might be problematic.
I suppose it won't be long before Girl Scouts accept boys....but I think there are fewer boys who want to earn a sewing badge than there are girls who want to earn an archery badge. |
