Subject: HR Zones - Garmin or Friel's
Garmin and Joe Friel have different ideas for the HR zones. My training plan has me doing a lot of Z2 base running. My LTHR (per Friel's method) is 177. So my Garmin Z2 would be 124-142 while the Friel Z2 is 150-157. I see that the BT HR calculator is close or the same as Friel's. Should I just disregard Garmin's zones?

Garmin
Zone 1 is 60-70%
Zone 2 is 70-80%
Zone 3 is 80-90%
Zone 4 is 90-100%
Zone 5 is 100-110%

Friel
Zone 1 Less than 85%
Zone 2 85% to 89%
Zone 3 90% to 94%
Zone 4 95% to 99%
Zone 5a 100% to 102%
Zone 5b 103% to 106%
Zone 5c More than 106%

Thank you!
