With two weeks to my last race of this season, im already looking to next year. I'm thinking I want to plan a road-trip race out of state (I'm located in Orlando, Fl) Any suggestions for sprint races in the South East?

There are zillions of them.  What are you looking for?  What type of swim (river, lake, ocean, pool)?  Do you prefer hilly or flat bike courses?  Big race or small?

I've raced around the southeast quite a bit.  The Setup Event races *tend* to be well run.  The Charleston tri series is a nice local series and occasionally some fast racers show up.  (And Charleston is a great road trip anyway.)

By far my personal favorite (of the races I've done) is the Chattanooga Waterfront race.  I've only ever done the Olympic distance race, but I think they have a sprint version as well.  The swim is in the river.  My only complaint is that they've had glitches with the start times in the past, but hopefully they've got that ironed out.  The bike course is wonderful -- rolling hills (which I like).  The run is hard -- it involves stairs and is usually hot.  It's an out and back so you get to (kinda) see where you are in the race, which is nice.  It is generally a big race, and very well run.

Thanks! Both those races look good/interesting destinations. I stopped in Charlston once on my way back from Virginia, ate lunch and wandered around a bit, I've been meaning to go back and explore more.

I guess I'm a little odd, I've only done open water swimming in my races in training. I'm kind of scared of the idea of doing a pool race.

Pool races *are* scary.  I've had more uncomfortable contact in pool swims than most tris (bar one, where there was 'an incident').

Charleston is wonderful, so yeah, check it out for sure if that interests you.  The Chattanooga area has its own wonderful charms.  The races could not be more different, in some ways.  Charleston tri series is small, local.  It attracts some from outside the Charleston area, but is mostly for locals, and definitely feels that way.  Chattanooga is much bigger and attracts some pros or aspiring pros.

I know you're looking for an out of state race, but have you done Boardwalk in Indiatlantic? It was my first ocean swim and was super calm. Fast bike course, only 2 causeways otherwise totally flat. Only other races I've done were in Austin, TX one was a SuperSprint and the other was an Oly. The Oly (CapTex) does have a sprint option. It is a Lifetime race and was run well. Swim and bike course were nice, the run was just meh.

Both of these race management companies produce events in Tennessee, Alabama and as far down as the Gulf Coast.

I race a couple of the Team Magic events every year...lots of fun.

I raced the Fall Creek Falls event a few years ago.  I loved that event but it requires an overnight stay (about 3 hours away) and I don't want to do that for anything less than a HIM.

asianflava, Austin is a little further than I was thinking, but it's a city I've always wanted to check out. Definitely a consideration for another year.

JolO, thanks for the links, I'll take a look.
