Comments: Couldn't sight on the first buoy. 2 people took off super quick so I couldn't follow their kicking. I did better when I turned the first buoy. What would you do differently?: Sight better. Maybe I need new open water google.s Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble getting into my shoes on the bike start (lost time on bike not T1). One shoe clicked out and I couldn't get it in. Also, the transition was right at the pier this year. What would you do differently?: Lube cleats. Bike
Comments: University ave is awful. The 5 laps was logistically better than the course they used last year that crossed University ave and made traffic a nightmare. It was very interesting how much my speed dropped on the turns. I was able to stay aero for most of the straight away parts of the road. Was doing about 23 mpg there. The turn on the south end was great because the street is 3 lanes there. On the north end it was a little narrow because the street is narrow and they needed lanes to get into and out of the loops. A couple people bumped signs but there wasn't much to be done. Wind wasn't too bad. When I did practice rides on the course in the afternoon I couldn't use my aero bars. Transition 2
Comments: Well, I forgot to take my helmet off. The volunteers at the exit to T2 took it. Run
Comments: Nice run. Sunny. Not to hot. Not to cold. No one passed. I was happy with my pace since it was time I ran under an 8 min mile in a triathlon. Post race
Warm down: Hung out for about 10 minutes. Cleaned up my stuff and left. What limited your ability to perform faster: I set a personal best. So nothing. Event comments: The race is to support the Cal triathlon club. New members (i.e. freshmen) have to volunteer for a race before they can race in one so there were a lot of volunteers. The course has changed from past years and it was logistically a better course though the bike course was slowed by turns. The race was a lot more organized at all levels this year than the year before. The website was less confusing. The announcer (Mark from on your mark productions) was right at the TT zone and repeating what the course was over and over again and there were very clear signs for the number of laps and where to go. This made the race very enjoyable The course was fast, flat course. 1:14:57 is a personal best for the typical sprint distances . Last updated: 2018-09-30 12:00 AM

Ate breakfast and drove to parking lot a mile away. Biked to race course. Set up transition.
Jogged along the water front. Got in water 10 minutes early. Swam between launch peer and sail school pier but not very aggressively; the water was really cold.
