Swim
Comments: Swim went pretty good. Breathing to my right, the sun was out of my eyes for most of the swim. Buoys every .1 miles. Thought I did a really good job of swimming straight. Did get a piece of sea-weed caught on my leg about halfway through that wouldn't come off. I think it was stuck to my timing chip. Eventually I had to reach down and get it off because it was bugging me. Transition 1
Comments: There's a really steep hill we have to run up, so I did my best to take it easy and not spike my heart rate. Got my helmet on, nutrition loaded, sunglasses on, and took off. Bike
Comments: The course is fast in the beginning, and was averaging 22.2 mph at the 15 mile mark. It got hillier the back half. My power stayed where I wanted it, but my MPH fell. Took it easy the last mile or two in. With about 10 miles to go I saw some rain clouds on the horizon and knew we were going to get rained on at some point. Had 3 gels, 3 salt tabs, half a Cliff bar, 2.5 bottles of Gatorade Endurance. At the 2nd of two aid stations on the bike I reached for a water and didn't get it, but luckily there was one last volunteer with a Gatorade Endurance that I was able to snag. Glad I got that drink and glad he was right there for me. Transition 2
Comments: Put some socks on, emptied my pockets, put my shoes on and took off. Run
Comments: Run started out good and I was trying to hold back. First mile was a 7:08. I stopped at every aid station for a drink and to take a salt tab. There was a runner in front of me that I thought was doing a good pace, so I just held on to him for the first half. The 2nd half he started to slow down so I passed him. My right hamstring was feeling like it wanted to cramp up but never did. With about 5.5 miles to go the skies opened up and it down poured. Ran in varying degrees of rain the rest of the way. It did help cool me down, and luckily never gave me any issues with blisters. The last couple miles it was really hurting and my pace slowed to closer to 8:00 miles. I was happy to be done. Post race
Warm down: Did a little bit of stretching and went to take a shower. Event comments: This is a great local race. It's not too expensive to enter, has a good course with plenty of support, and a good amount of participants. There are enough people to make it feel like a race and not a training day. Good medals, decent t-shirt, and some food afterwards. There were plenty of volunteers who did a great job. Cops had intersections locked down. Fast course. Last updated: 2019-07-29 12:00 AM
