Overall Rank = 77/167
Age Group = male 45-49
Age Group Rank = 8/12
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 A.M. and tried to eat some breakfast. Had a muffin with peanut butter and banana on top. Could not eat all of it. Too excited for the race. Got a shower and got everything loaded and was on the road at 5:30 to get to the race site.
Event warmup:

Really the only warm up I did was some arm warm-up to get ready for the swim.
Swim
  • 17m 46s
  • 850 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I crushed the swim for me. This was my biggest fear of all and I feel like out of the 3 disciplines this was my best performance.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Just need to keep up with my training and keep improving.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Felt like I had a pretty good transition. Had a little trouble with getting the wet suit off my feet. Got a little dizzy standing up and bending over to get my helmet. Ran with my bike to mounting. Had my shoes clipped into my pedals already. Could have done a little better getting on the bike and getting my feet in my shoes and strapped while pedaling.
What would you do differently?:

A little more practice getting in and out of transition.
Bike
  • 51m 12s
  • 13.86 miles
  • 16.24 mile/hr
Comments:

I come from a bike racing background(Many, Many years ago) but I have to admit I wasn't prepared as well as I could have been. The course was very hilly and they got to me.
What would you do differently?:

Again just keep up with my training and keep improving. Need to incorporate a little more hill training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Had a little trouble getting my feet out of the shoes and riding on top of the shoes. Struggled a little with my left foot and slowed way down. pedaled a couple of time to get some speed back up and when I went to get my right foot out and didn't get my foot on top of the shoes and it got caught on the ground and came unclipped. I stopped to get my shoe and I was probably 25 yds from the dismount line and ran with my bike the rest of the way into transition.

Once I got into transition the rest of it went great. Racked my bike got my helmet off and slipped my feet right into my running shoes and took off..
What would you do differently?:

Practice dismounting and getting my feet out of my shoes more.
Run
  • 29m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt jittery at first. Took a little bit to get into rhythm. I was hoping to run the whole thing but did have to stop for a couple of brief times. I definitely negative split the course. Felt much better the second half and was able to pick up my pace. Felt pretty strong coming across the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Just continue with my training and keep improving.
Post race
Warm down:

Not whole lot. Walked around a bit. Ate some of the post race food they had. Orange slices, bananas and pickles(This one was interesting to me but I thought what the heck).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I cant say anything limited my ability today. This was my first triathlon and was very pleased with my outcome. Cant wait for the next one!!!

Event comments:

This was my very first triathlon. I loved it and cant wait to do another one!!!
