Subject: Using Data
Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best way to use the data from previous training. I'm completely new to triathlon, but have been exercising for a long time. I have a Samsung watch that I'm able to get decent stats on my workouts, but I'm unclear how to effectively use the data collected.

It's cool seeing the information collected, but I honestly have no idea how to use it to make changes to my next training session. What should I be looking for in the data to let me know what to work on?

Any advice would be great, even if it's to use good old fashioned paper and pencil to track.

Thanks!

The main metrics I keep track of are mileage, pace and HR. These three data points usually are enough to tell me if I’m improving, plateauing, or over training. You can get a case of analysis paralysis by trying to analyze too much data.

Step 1, I would find a platform to put the data that is super easy and will grow with you as your knowledge to analyze the data grows
Step 2. Learn to measure overall training load. Load is a mix of duration and intensity. Measuring load will allow you to better dose your training, gradually increase it, understand how much you can sustain etc
Step 3. Learn to analyze your training make up. What zones are you working in, be it pace, power, or heart rate
Step 4: Track performance metrics, ie run efficiency, strava segments, peak power .....

Take a look at the logging mechanisms here, Strava, Training Peaks. There are otherrs depending on your technical abilities, budget...
