Subject: RE: 09.21.2019 Saturday Stroll No strolling here. The tail end of Tropical Storm Imelda got to Oklahoma on Friday. We had really strong winds and some rain. They cancled the swim because we had took much wind on the lake. The wind on the bike was fierce too. The first time I turned into the cross wind about a mile into the race my bike was almost blown over. I had to move my arms out of the aero bars the wides hand grips on the bike to stabalize it in the cross winds. My arms were getting as much of a workout as my legs were. I about got blown over 2-3 times in the cross wings even with my arms to the widest grips. The run was an out and back we ran into the wind the first half and I was no feeling good on the out bound. I was about 10 sec over my min/mi goal pace going out and I fear it would be even more than that coming back since I felt so bad, but after the run around with the wind at my back I made up all the time I has lost on the outbound. There were not volunteers at the sprint turn-a-round. The Olympic, half, and full all used the same course so there not turn-a-round chutes. A sign was supposed to be there, but it had blown about. We got to 1.75 miles on our Garmins before the guy in the lead turned around. I turned around where he did but didn't realize out blunder until after I crossed the finish line. So me and a few other guys ran and extra 0.4 miles before the race staff got the course marker back in place. It was a wet, wind, crazy race. I worked hard and will be sore for a few days. |
