My name is Zach, I am 22 years old and a full time student. Over the past 10 years, I have struggled mentally and emotionally with severe ADD/ADHD and associated anxiety and depression. Over the past few months I have finally been able to find treatment that allows me to function in my full capacity and to move forward with my life. In the last few months I have spent a lot of time trying to grow as a person in all areas of my life and to teach myself how to live my best life. One of the best things I can think of to do that is to test myself and see how far I can push myself. I came to this community because I have registered for the Iron Man 70.3 in Madison Wisconsin on June 14th 2020. My reason for doing this isn't solely to see if I can finish; I am currently 260.4 lbs, down from 278, and I am working to improve my physical health.

I am excited by this endeavor and terrified at the same time. I have wanted to make my life different for so long that the first steps honestly scare me more than the idea of the race itself. I am on a journey and I think it'll be one of the greatest of my life, no matter where it leads!

I am going to send you a private message, young man. I am very proud of what you are setting out to do and I agree that the sense of accomplishment will be an epic event in your life. Stick with it...and godspeed!

Awesome! And welcome.

I hope that you enjoy it and that fitness/triathlon becomes a part of your lifestyle not just a bucket list item. Even if you find that it's just not your thing, remember that trying is way more than most people do. Triathlon training is a long slow process, and consistency is key. Think about joining one of the mentor groups here, they're a great way to be social and help keep you on track. They're likely to be on hiatus or slow this time of year, but they'll start back up around the new year. ::cough:: (beer drinkers are a friendly bunch) ::cough::

Welcome Zach!
Check out the training plans, but especially the Triathlon Talk forum where you can ask any question you like and receive answers from others who have already been there and done that and learned the hard lessons.
Glad you have you!

Hey Zach!

It's awesome that you have set your mind to do something to better yourself. Triathlon is such a challenging and rewarding sport. Balancing all three disciplines (well five disciplines if you count nutrition and recovery, which you should) is a tall task.

I like the quote at the bottom of your post, I've alway said that the race is the victory lap, the training is where the athlete is made!

Welcome Zach, what has helped many are the mentor groups here on BT. A lot of really great and very supportive people post there.
