This site seems like the right place for me :)

I've wanted to complete a Triathlon for years, but never actually made the effort. I used to run more often, but lower back pain several years ago caused me to stop. I started swimming for fitness a few months ago, which has been no trouble on my back, and biking surprisingly does not bother it. I figure, with two out of three I can probably train my way to running again, so why not make it a goal!

I'm 36, 6' and 145lbs, and live in Central CA. I've been lurking around here as I gain more ideas, and I found an Olympic course in May for my goal. I'm thinking of using the 8-week Olympic plan as time allows.

Hanging around here as already gotten me more excited about doing a Tri, and sent me down plenty of rabbit holes :) I'm sure I'll be asking questions now that I've joined, but I'm grateful for the community here. Sounds like there's a good chance I'll get hooked after doing one.

I blew out my knee in high school wrestling.  My brother did two full Ironman races when he was in college, but I didn't think I would be able to cycle with my bad knee and my shoulders were just as bad from wresting so I was also concerned with the swim.  Joints were a limiting factor for about the first 6-8 weeks, but the training strengthened me old injuries to where they are no longer limit me.  Prior to Triathlon, I couldn't sit in a car for more than 30 minutes without being able to straighten my knee.  Now I can not only do 16-hour car rides with no problem, but I can bike hard for 4+ hours with no problem. Hopefully, you will see similar benefits as you ease back into running.

I had a ton of questions before my first Triathlon, but I was living in a town that had less than 5,000 people listed on the population sign as you drove into town and we were an hour car ride to get to any town that was larger so finding a local club, group, whatever with people to training with and ask questions wasn't an option.  I joined a BT mentor group three months before my first race and it was a life saver.

Welcome!  I hope you ask lots of questions.  That is the best way to learn.
