Pre-race routine:

Ate a big pancake breakfast and packed up for the LAKE GEORGE 70.3 (!!!). On the drive up the northway, my bike decided to fly off the trunk bike rack onto the highway. Saddle ripped off and right aerobar broken - further assessment needed but initial impression is the bike is not currently rideable. On the sad drive home I recalled that Clay was racing this half marathon, and realized I could probably make it.
Event warmup:

Well, I was tapered and carbed up, and very upset about what happened to my bike, so it was PR or bust. Ran with Karen for the first 2-3 miles at a pace good for low 1:18, but I was feeling good so picked it up slightly. Took my Maurten at mile 6, and got water from each aid station (I think 4 of them). Bridged up to a couple guys around mile 9-10 and ran with them briefly before continuing on ahead. Passed another guy quickly, he must have blown up. Was feeling it for sure towards the end but was on pace for huge PR so just kept pushing. About a mile left a guy came in to sight, but was pretty far ahead. He spotted me and kept his pace enough to hold on by 10 seconds. Turns out he was in my AG - wish he didn't catch sight of me!
What would you do differently?:

Interesting question for this one - probably secure my bike better, or put it in the back seat. Can't believe that's how my streak of doing every single Lake George HIM came to an end. Happy to make something of the day by getting to this race in time for same day registration. Big PR and got to hang out with Clay and some other guys at the (excellent) post race party.
