Comments: Really bad tactics here. Started out on the heels of Josh Merlis, and hit 1 mile at 5:23 - oops. Really paid for this the rest of the race. Was steadily overtaken by many people the whole way (including several I've beaten at other races) - not my usual style. Tried to settle into a decent pace once through the worst of the early hills, but I was just toast. Debated just jogging it in, but held on as best I could. Surprised to see I was close to a PR in the final stretch, but too little too late at that point. What would you do differently?: Race smarter. The layout of this course sets up nicely to negative split the 5ks, and my first was the fastest. Post race
Warm down: Not much, chatted with some friends then headed back to the gym for some dry clothes and food. Did yoga later in the day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor race strategy. Also wasn't really focused on this race so not a real taper. Event comments: I do really like this race, seems like every runner in the area comes out for it. Wish I had a better day, but they can't all be winners I suppose. Last updated: 2024-11-11 12:00 AM

Pancakes at home, decided on final outfit (singlet with arm warmers, headband, and gloves), and drove to the free charges by city hall. Had plenty of time to get bib and hang out in gym. Even had a second BM, unusual for me. Opted for the old Metaspeeds (about 160mi on them) since this wasn't an A or B race for me.
About 10 minutes with 2 strides. A few leg swings, not much else for drills.
