Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 144/314
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 16/32
Pre-race routine:

Arrived at the event to set-up Transition and get my chip. Ate a banana, an apple and drank some water. Met up with Joe and Pierre and found Phil. Saw Rob (Opus) heading out of T1.
Event warmup:

Quick short swim to get wet.
Swim
  • 11m 59s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 36s / 100 meters
Comments:

Had a great swim, beat my time from last year by 13 sec.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No seperate time for the trasition was taken. The T1 time is added to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

everything went well except for getting the shirt on. Maybe a tri-top for the next race.
Bike
  • 36m 46s
  • 20 kms
  • 32.64 km/hr
Comments:

Spent most of the ride on the areo bars. The ride felt fast. I had 34 km/hr average on the comp. I should have taken some water on the ride rather than the gatoraide that I had, the mix was too strong and I had a hard time drinking it. I had a gel in my shorts but did not use it.
What would you do differently?:

Brink some water and check the consentration of the gatorade in the bottle.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Forgot to check tha laces in my shoes when setting up the trasition. My shoes were still tied from my last run. I started to laugh at myself.
What would you do differently?:

Pay closer attention to the little details of setting up the transition.
Run
  • 31m 43s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 20s  min/km
Comments:

Need to drink some more on the bike. I struggled on the last 2km of the run. I got very hot and uncomfortable. The water station ran out of water and only had coke and orange gaterade. Orange gatorade.... I was about to yak.
What would you do differently?:

I must learn to run and increase my running base.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran the last .5km with Benn ( like last year) went through the finishing chute and drank a bottle of water looking for the shade. I almost jumped in the basin to cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nice race! I hear you were so fast in the water that you caused the water level to drop by a foot in the basin due to evaporation!

Thanks but what makes you think I can read French.............or Spanish.

That works out to be about 1:27 per 100 yards. over a 820 yard swim  Not that fast.

Ha. Mostyly because I wanted a chance to show off, and being in MOntreal and all, you have at least some reading knowledge of Franglais!  (and that;s fast to me!)

great race and a fast (even if you don't consider it fast) swim since it is in the Algaelympic Bassin!
I can imagine the deception to find there's only brown or orange stuff to drink in the heat. What tips would you give to someone... hem... like me who is a little intimidated by the competition in Montreal?

Ton Franglais est excellent Hollis! Je suis très impressionnée. Où as-tu appris? Il y a aussi d'autres belles villes à part de Montréal, tu viendras visiter!

Isabelle, I race against myself and the clock. Everybody else is just traffic on my way to the finish line.  Some of the traffic I pass ( swim) some of the traffic I flow with ( bike ) and some times I just stand on the side of the road as the traffic passes me (run).  I race to have fun.  When you are standing around looking at the other people, everybody looks intimidating. Everybody looks in shape and fast. But in the end it's just me and the clock.

The best therapy for being intimidated by the competition in Montreal is to arrange to meet Mike and I before the race. Then you'll see that there's nothing at all to fear! If you ever start at the same time as Mike, you can body surf his wake for the whole race, that tends to make things much easier!

I will definatly consider this as my third race goal (see my log) and start looking for a decent wet suit. As for being in Mike 's wave, they don't separate the start by gender?

For the sprint and Oly they do.  Also I think that men over 50 went in the Womans'wave in the oly.  I don't know about the HIM or the IM distance.
