Age Group Rank = 12/17
Pre-race routine:

Got up at about 0530 for a 0815 start, had a bagel and a cup of coffee. About 20-30 minutes before the start I had a GU.
Event warmup:

Walked around.
Run
  • 2h 05m 57s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Fely good for the first half, at about mile 8 Jill caught up to me and I had planned on taking that mile easy. I think we kinda started racing each other and when we got to mile 10. or 11 I started to get a muscle cramp in my right calf, I could feel that it wanted to just totally knot up on me, so I just had to keep running at a pace that was right at the line of it going into total cramps.
What would you do differently?:

Well, I would not get a muscle cramp, but from what I know and have read there is no one cause that you can put a finger on. For me I think I will drink more gatorade leaading up to a longer race, eat a banana that AM, and maybe some easy streching before. and we will see.
Post race
Warm down:

Streched and drank water and gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Muscle cramps

Event comments:

Small race yet fun, and this was Jills first and she did well and got 3rd in her age group.

Course: It was flat, and not a bad course, Ran by the old ghost fleet. Not a whole lot of folks out and about, really just the folks at the water stops. But I enjoyed it anyway.

Nice race! Great job managing that speed through a muscle cramp!
