Pre-race routine:

Decided to do the race on Wednesday and signed up on the way home last night. Marcy put race wheels and cleaned bike for me cause I was working late. Standard prerace dinner, mediterranian pasta and chicken. Breakfast was eggos.
Event warmup:

did a 3 mile ride to warm up. Race report looks screwy cause its bike run bike instead of run bike run.
Run
  • 24m 26s
  • 5.6 miles
  • 04m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Time was 24.26, avg mph of 22.6. Bike 1 had a cross tail wind so it was sweet. The wave was males 44 and under. I went out hard and was 3rd after a quarter mile and all by myself. At mile 1.5 a guy passed me and gave him the zone till we hit the bridge. I passed him going up and didn't see him again until he got me on the run. I was third bike into T1. You call out your number as you go again and they give you your shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I could have tried to hang with the top 2 but I am pretty darn proud of this ride. I was first in my AG for the first time ever.
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

funny coming into transition and see only 2 bikes. I had a gatorade end on the bike to run with but i decided i didn't need it.
What would you do differently?:

I left my GPS in my bento box, I was out of the area when I realized I left it. I turned to go get it and then said, hey your in 3rd place, hang on as long as you can, so i left it there.
Bike
  • 50m 7s
  • 18.4 miles
  • 22.03 mile/hr
Comments:

50:07 which is about an 8:57 pace. Good run. I was consistent and pushed really hard at the end. No pain issues and water on the course was fine. I was 3:47 better than last year on this run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

switched shoes and ran out. They put your shoes in a bag and bring them back to the finish.
Run
  • 29m 2s
  • 0 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

29:02, avg 19mph. Bike back was into wind. Had to go to the small ring and I do have some shifing problems. I caught a few people back and was 1:41 faster than last year on this portion. My focus on this bike was a little off. I was thinking about the ironman and I probably could have found another minute if my mind wasn't wondering.
What would you do differently?:

stay focused on the race.
Post race
Warm down:

beer, lots and lots of beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

focus on ironman training, but no excuses, very good race for me.

Event comments:

Great race for me. I was first on the first bike segment in my age group. Thats a first for me:). My overall time was 5:07 better than last year. We had a great time at the post race party. Matt (millertimeusn) joined our posse and alot of beer was drank.

What a great race!!  Good job on the first bike portion - first in your AG, congrats!

This sounds like it was a nice race to do during your taper for IMFL.. not too long, but enough to get a little competition running through your veins.
