Pre-race routine:

Take my bike to fifteen different brikeshops to make sure it's in good shape. Also to dodge any Friday afternoon work responsibilities. Also to covet the various tri bikes. Felt...Orbea...DEAD sexy. I'm in.

I also made it a point to carbo load and start hydrating (I run a little dry) two days before instead of one. This proved to be the right way for me.
Event warmup:

nah. Starbucks.

Started at the back of the pack.
Bike
  • 12h 56m 31s
  • 175 miles
  • 13.52 mile/hr
Comments:

This was not a timed event. I learned a whole ton on this thing. How to ride in a pace line and the etiquette associated with it. What drafting is, does and means. How to rest while climbing hills.

What would you do differently?:

Go harder!
Post race
Warm down:

Sent Marie into shock by accepting a massage. (I don't like to be touched by people I don't know)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience. In hindsight, I could have pushed harder. Headwinds were a real issue also.

One Minute bucolic farmland valley and meadow, the next pristine coastline, the next austere abondoned oilfields and fractionation towers, straight out of a Mad Max film set. What a total blast! Very well marked and tended to. SAG support virtually omnipresent.

Way to go! 175 miles... that's something else. Haha nice little tally, too. Congrats on no dry heaving.

You learned how to rest on hills? Whaaaat. Please, share the knowledge.

Yeah, 175 in two days is monumental! ESPECIALLY with all the climbing! You're ready for Ironman almost!
