Pre-race routine:

Showered to wake myself up and got dressed. Picked up my running partner and off we went! Had a gel in the car.
Event warmup:

Stretching and bouncing around to stay warm!
Run
  • 2h 28m 55s
  • 13.1 miles

Comments:

When the run started, my toes were numb from standing around! We got to the corral around 7 am so I was not out there long.

Miles 1-9 were great. Had a gel about an hour in and legs felt awesome. Mile 9-10 was the longest mile of the race. After the long uphill of the tunnel, my legs were starting to tire. I kept pushing and after mile 10, the miles got a lot easier. The aid stations and spectators were great. I loved the music along the course and running through parts of Detroit you don't get to see very often.

What would you do differently?:

Run harder at the end. My training partner sprinted and beat me by a minute. I was too tired at the point.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched on the astro-turf at Ford Field and got a massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was sick for two weeks in October and this was my first long run in almost 3 weeks. I definitely felt it in my legs near the end.

Nice job!! Good job in not giving up and pushing through!Yeah, the fan support was amazing. I've done the full at Detroit twice and each year I've seen the fan support grow and grow! Their support does wonders.

Great job!  I don't know why, but the last couple miles of any race always seem the longest to me.  You did great pushing through the mental barrier...sounds like you had a great time!
