Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5. In the car by 5:20 with gear, liguids for race, a bagel with a shmear of peanut butter and much-needed coffee. Took about an hour to arrive at race site. Found parking on side street just up the road from the beach. Ingested some Gu about 20 minutes before my swim wave.
Event warmup:

I swam around for about 10 minutes to loosen up
Swim
  • 14m
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I agree with the others...If I do this race again, I'll start at the front of the wave. I ended up swimming with my head out of the water until the first bouy. So many people breast stroking. I finally got into rhythm half-way through the race.
What would you do differently?:

Start at front of wave
Transition 1
  • 05m 12s
Comments:

Long distance to transition area. I ran most of it. Suit got a bit stuck at heels. Ingested second Gu before taking off.
What would you do differently?:

practice wetsuit exit more
Bike
  • 39m 27s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.25 mile/hr
Comments:

My hill work in Harvard, MA paid off. While I did need to go into the granny gear, I passed dozens of folks on the hills. I pushed myself really hard on the bike and it felt good!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Since I bike in my running shoes, there's not much to transition. I did need to tie a lace.
What would you do differently?:

Look into lace locks
Run
  • 21m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Since the other two races I did this summer had 5 mile runs, I just ran hard for the 3 miles. Passed lots of people
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

didn't stretch enough

Event comments:

Big race was well-organized by the Danskin folks and FIRM. Not sure I'll do it again, though

Wow Joanne...I am impressed big time with your results.  Great biking and running times.  The strangest thing about it all was that every time you came by me, you had a big smile!  Anyone who can compete and have as much fun as you were obviously having is doing it for the right reasons.  Congrats on the great race!

Great Race!! I'm envious!

Can you fill me in on where in Harvard those hills are because I'm definately one of the people walking that you passed on the hills
