Pre-race routine:

Wake up and get my two non-morning guys dressed and loaded in the car. Eat something on the way, find a parking place.
Event warmup:

Walk about 3/4 mile to the start. Pee. Find a place in the crowds. (3500 +/- racers, and Orlando record). Listen to DS whine (he's 5). Look for my 2 girlfriends.

Comments:

It was cold for us, but was great for running, and we had a good time. Only bananas and water, the Panera nearby was closed :-(
What would you do differently?:

Well, I am eager to try a 5K to hit 30 minutes or under right now...

Warm down:

Listened to DS whine some more. Not too much for a 5yr old who just ran 5K tho', piggy backed him to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Family time - wouldn't trade it for the world. And the crowds - especially the walkers.

Performance: Good
Walked about 1/4 mile with DS and DH to help block DS from getting trampled. Once it thinned a bit, they told me to take off. Ran off and passed a lot of people. Had a lot of people pass me. Was ok with 1 mile time. Was amazed at 2 mile time, hung on for 3 mile time and to finish. Still can't quite believe I ran that fast. Questioned being ready for half marathon next week.
Course: The course started and finished where the half marathon will next week, and ran on some of the same streets. Quite a lot of it was on brick streets.

Great Job!!

You will hit sub 30 soon...I know your hard work will pay off! Crowded races are hard to hit your best...but I see lots of improvement!

Congrats!

Hey Ann,

Great race!  I think that you would have easily broken 30 minutes without the walk at the beginning.  A 5k for a 5 year old is quite an achievement.  It's fun doing a race with the family.  Congratulations.
