Subject: Garmin FR vs Edge 305 elevation?
I currently have a Garmin Edge 305 which I love and was thinking about getting a Forerunner 305 for the running and cyclocross/mtb riding since the Edge 305 doesn't have an arm strap or anything...however after reading some reviews on the Forerunner it seems that the FR only uses GPS, I know that the Edge uses a barometric altimeter, does the FR only use GPS for the elevation or does it use a barometric altimeter as well? If it only uses GPS then I assume this would be a HUGE drawback.

yeah forerunner only uses GPS for alitude and it not as good as the edge for that. I currently use my forerunner on the bike for distance but I found that it will be off on a point to point bike ride when you look at ft up and ft down traveled. distance taveled may be right on pretty much but I do not trust the alitude espcailly on a bike where it can change so fast.
