Mount Gretna, PA
United States
Xterra
72F / 22C
Sunny
Total Time = 3h 45m 24s
Overall Rank = 107/146
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Just like any training day
Event warmup:

None, but for the 1 minute swim
Swim
  • 22m 37s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

I wasn't swimming fast, but I swam in a group of people for the first time. I got kicked in the eye, whacked in the head. Sighted markers really well. Very pleased with my swimming improvements.
What would you do differently?:

Warmup with 5 minutes of swimming to get breathing right.
Transition 1
  • 03m 33s
Comments:

I got a reasonably good start going out of T1. Nothing to improve on. I could have shaved some time by running out of the water to the transition area, but I was getting my legs back.
Bike
  • 2h 24m 31s
  • 16 miles
  • 6.64 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Sign up for a different race. There are plenty to choose from.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Quick transition. Shoes on quickly and out the chute. Try to repeat that transition on my next race.
Run
  • 54m 40s
  • 5 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Tough tough course. But happy with my performance.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Course layout.

Event comments:

I'd rate the race higher, but everyone was commenting on the impossible course. The race was the first Xterra ever run in PA. I think they got too aggressive with the course for fear of letting everyone down with their first race.

I've hiked up the trail to the fire tower and I can't imagine 'running' it as part of a race... This is one of the races on my list for next year.
