Hello All.
I am hoping that there is still room for another newbie.
I am a soon-to-be 37 Y/O Clydesdale, married, three kids.
I have spent the last 15 years getting older, overweight, and out of shape.
Our oldest son is currently in boot camp in MO, and we have a challenge going. Basically, he can't wait to come back stronger, faster, and better than his "old" man.
It's time for me to get my butt in gear and prove something to the young whipper snapper!, but I need motivation.
I suck at running, I like to swim, but have never been great at it, and I love to bike.
My goals are simple, lose weight, learn to run, and finish a tri before the year is done.
There is a tri at Lake Erie on 9/7, which may be too soon, but I would like to set it as a possible goal.
Let me know if you have room for me.

Thanks.

Irish

Thanks Betsy.

After doing some good reading, I have decided to start a little slower. I will be shooting to finish a 5K running the whole way in late August/early September. From that base, I will then begin the Tri training.

Gotta stay motivated!

excuse me while I catch up on the thread.

  • welcome Irish! You CAN do it. show your kiddo who's boss.
  • I lived up to my BAMF of the day challenge and did all of the pushups asked of me...AND threw in some core training w/ the fitball to boot! I went through a rather awkward but doable routine that I found in HerSports magazine. If you haven't looked @ this mag yet... you should! It's great for multisport chickadees....and not yet flooded with a bunch of advertising like the more popular fit mags.
  • i registered for my first full marathon.. it's not until Nov. but will be great. I'm shooting for a particular wgt goal by that date and a finish time of 4 1/2 hrs or less. I realize it's odd to set a time goal for a first marathon, but well... I'm just full of overachiever goals as of late. The course is in Raleigh, NC (where I abide! ) however, the changed the course this year to be just like Boston. gulp. we do have hills. Should be interesting, but thank goodness it won't be hot! and I don't care at all if it should snow.
  • signing up for two fall sprint dist. tri's either this aftn or evening. both are fairly local. I need to get on the stick . so to speak.
  • where o where have our mentor's goals gone? can you find them? their hiding somewhere in her brain.

Heartbroken this morning after reading through the threads on Christine.

Us Clydesdales tend to keep a lot of emotion in, but there is no hiding this sadness.

It makes me think about my wife and children (all teenagers), and the grief that Christine's family is going through right now.

My family's thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. God bless them. It is obvious by reading the threads how much she touched many many peoples lives.

I read through the threads in COJ this morning .... wow... so sad... and so sudden. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend Betsy... will be keeping her friends, family and spirit in the prayers. Seems like we all lost a phenomenal and warm person. Her photos really radiate that she had a great personality.

Alright ladies and gentleman:

I NEED MOTIVATION!

With the family, work, college, Scouts, etc. i am finding it hard to wake my butt up at 5:30am to workout.

ANY motivation or inspiration you can provide would be of great help, even if that means telling me to stop Whining and get it done.

Thanks.

Maybe setup a system of accountability

I'm open to that. I am in the weight loss forum for accountability on that front, but one for training makes perfect sense to me.

Maybe we should set some small challenges in terms of run time, bike time, swim time, etc?
If not challenges, then maybe just a daily report of what each of us did the previous day, with some "motivational" messages from the other members i.e. if someone didn't do ANYTHING, an it was not a rest day, the rest of us give them a gentle SHOVE!

Yes, tomorrow morning, if I do not log a workout by 9am you can rip me a new one!

You got a deal, but give me until 10am, since I have meetings in the morn.

Good job logging your workout. I may try to do some pushup in between work and school. At least it's something for today!
