Short jog & stretch.
Swim
  • 06m 19s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

Water was REALLY murky and dirty, but luckily no sign of the Bullshark that was spotted in the river last week :) Time wise, this was my fastest swim this season, not surprising I worked really hard and felt like I was dying when I exited the water! Didn't have my Polar on but I think I was going at close to maximim HR!!! :)
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I have trishorts now so less faffing around in transition. Socks still take ages to put on though. Oh and I also have a race belt ... which I forgot to put on and was sent back by an official to get it!!! Whoops.
What would you do differently?:

Practice putting socks on faster? :)
Remember to put on race belt!!!
Bike
  • 24m 25s
  • 8 kms
  • 19.66 km/hr
Comments:

Bike computer didn't work so couldn't see my cadence which put me off. I found the cycle REALLY hard today, not sure why.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 16m 27s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 06m 35s  min/km
Comments:

Like the bike, for some reason the run today was really hard. Was able to run all the way though, which is an achievement. Stopped to walk at the 2 drink stations though, only because if I try to drink & run I choke :)
What would you do differently?:

Same old mantra ... get fitter! (which I'm doing)
Post race
Warm down:

Was disappointed at lack of post race refreshments - just water was available, not Carboshotz or fruit which was available at previous races.

Event comments:

For some reason I found today's race really really hard, my heart was pounding the whole way and although I really pushed myself as hard as possible, I still came second last out of 153 people. I really am a slow triathlete which is very demoralising, especially as I have been training hard with Wellbeings for the month. Its not for lack of trying, but I guess I just need to focus more on the positives which is the fact that I do triathlons in the first place and am much much healthier for it. I went to donate blood the other day and my blood pressure was 107/69 which is AMAZING. It always used to be 130/80. So all this exercise is really good for me, even if I'll probably never come first :)

Congratulations on a job well done. Don't worry about being second to last; you finished way ahead of everyone who didn't enter. I'm no expert as I am also a slow triathlete, but I think you probably had trouble on the bike and run because you went out real fast on the swim without much of a warm up, your heart rate went way up, and you never really got it back in control. Especially for short, fast races a good warm up is critical.

BTW, 27C / 81F! I'm a bit jealous as it was -11C/12F here this morning for my bike ride.

Again, congratulations on a fine race.

Hi,

Nice race, I think this race brings out a much higher level of competion, so allthough you may have come in at the back of the pack, it was a much fitter and stronger pack than you would have raced against in other tri's this season.

Good onya for getting out there and having a go...keep it up.

You did 100 times better than all the people that didn't race!!
Did you give blood this week? That may have something to do with why you found the race hard.
Regardless, stick with it, it gets better - take it from someone who knows!!
