Pre-race routine:

I took the day off from work and slept in. My wife and I puttered around the house and parceled the kids out to friends. We did get there fairly early, I had #23 & my wife was #19. I was glad to see that I wasn't the only one that wasn't in great shape, although most people were.
Event warmup:

we walked around the transtion area checking out all of the bikes. My wife decided that she wants a Cervelo Dual (when we can save enough for it). My wife went for a swim to warm up, I walked around and streched.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 400 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

I started off slowly and stayed in the back. Everytime I crawled I would run into someone on my right, so I mostly breaststroked. with a little crawling added in.
My wife started out too fast and ran out of breath. She panicked, but pull it together by slowing down and sidestroking the rest of the way.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to swim straight.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I slipped my feet into my sneakers without any socks, it was a mistake. I thought I had all of the sand off my feet. The back of my right foot is rubbed raw. It was a rookie mistake, I had only tried running barefoot a couple of times before that.
What would you do differently?:

put my socks on.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 12 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I struggled in the hills. I really wanted to make the bike cut-off at a total elapsed time of 55 minutes. I pushed harded than I would have liked too. I felt like I was going to puke on every hill. I didn't take any water in during the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Change what I eat on race day. Get use to drinking while I train on the bike. Get more training in, I was way too slow.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I already had my sneakers on, so I racked my bike and took off walking. I came in around 58 minutes total elapsed time, with my wife right beside me I passed her twice, she caught me in the hills and right at the transition.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 00m
  • 5 kms
  •  min/km
Comments:

I walked and ran, mostly walked the hills, I didn't really run as much as I wanted to, I think I left what energy I had on the bike course. I twisted my ankle twice on the flat part of the run. The edge of the road is broken up and it was getting dark. When I arrive they were handing out the hardware for the winners.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks, more training. JFT
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and drank some water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training, and the time limit.

Event comments:

I'm looking forward to next year to do the entire series of races over the summer.
