Subject: “Private” logs viewable by friends only?
Hey Development Team,

I was wondering if you folks would consider making “Private” logs viewable by those on our “friends list.”

Although I don’t know your DB structure, I wouldn’t think it would be that hard as you must have a flag set to indicate a private blog and you obviously are storing the User ID of those we add to our “friends blog list.”

Just a suggestion…

Thanks,
Rob

This has been talked about, it's just  a matter of prioritizing the work.

The idea itself is simple, but unfortunately it isn't really a matter of 'adding a switch to flip'. We're planning on adding more 'social' features to the logs though and this is a core part of that so it is going to happen, we just can't give a timeline right now.

Believe me, I hear ya’ about prioritizing work!

As I say, I don’t know the underlying data structure, or the code-base for that matter, but figured it would go something like this:

- “Requesting user” clicks on “Target user’s” BLOG link (or another way to get into a BLOG)

- If the BLOG is set to private, right now it redirects to the Home Page. With this modification, if the BLOG is set to private, check to see if the requesting user is on the target user’s “Friend’s list” and, if so, redirect to the BLOG.

- Blah. Blah. Blah.

In any event, glad you guys are considering/working on it.

Keep up the good work!
Rob

Hey Guys,

I see the following feature has been implemented:

'Only allow your "friends list" to view logs you have made public?'

However, this still makes blog updates available in the BT Blogger and displays the left side of the blog to those not on a user's Friend's List. Any way to "fix" these things?

Thanks,
Rob

To make a blog not available in the BT Blogger, you can remove the Blog Title. This is the 'switch' that the Blogger looks at.

I did both of these:  took my log private to 'Friends' only, and removed the headline.  But, if someone goes to a post I've made in a thread, or to my Race Reports and clicks on 'Logs,' as a Registered User, will they go through the door?  Or will the 'on the Friends list filter' keep them out?

I tried it with my own account, but I assume I'm my own best friend because I got in.  I ask because I took my log private this afternoon, and later tbatt (nice girl, just not on my friends list) posted to my Album.  I assume she could because it was publically viewable under the 'Albums' forum?

Thanks!

This privacy setting only effects the comments area of your log.  We haven't expanded it to albums, race reports, etc yet.

So whoever is on your logs 'friends' list, and you have it set like that, only those people will be able to view your log daily comments...everything else is fair game to anybody that is a user.
