Just got an email with these distances - Is the swim and bike distances correct? I thought they were longer than that?

I know that's what I thought - I'll just prepare for the longer distance and if it is shorter I'll do really great (eh...better)

This was my first race as a relay in 2002 and have done the whole thing every year since. Make sure you call a cab for afterwards!

Question for those who did this race last year -

I was out there this weekend - and the distance from the shore to the road is a good ways -  Where do they set up the transition area? and do they lay out any type of fake grass carpeting or anything on the sand?

I will just make sure to bring lots of water to rinse off with.

Sorry, we had a Typo in the first email.  The swim distance is

still 400 yards.  It will be in the gulf like the last two years.

This is going to be my first Tri. I'm a little worried about coming in dead last. I'm sure it won't happen, but still... It should be a good time.

It's better to have Tri'd and come in last, then never to have tri'd at all!!!
I am really looking forward to the first race of my season

It is a good run up the beach into the gravel transition area. They have carpet through transition but yes, be prepared for sandy feet.

Do you think it will be wetsuit legal?

Last year was wet suit legal, and I think the water is going to be colder this year so I would imagine wet suits would be fine. Last report I heard was a water temp of 64..... BRRRRR

Why did I think this was an 18 mile bike? Was there something that said this is an 18.2 mile bike?

Now that my brain is processing what I'm reading is thie race 16.2 mile bike?

No doubt its wetsuit legal, I would be surprised if the water temp is even up to 70 degrees. Oh, wait a minute, this is the flora bama, its not a USAT race so wetsuits always legal. Bike is 16.2 according to latest conversation with the bartender. They shortened it a little from last year for safety reasons (?).

If you guys get your numbers tonite, post them so I can try to say hello. I know Brandy and Matt, and have raced a half dozen times with Gary (but never met him). I will post my number and maybe wear my manatee shirt after the race. I ride a black p3 and all of you will pass me on the run.

I'm leaving for Orange Beach in about an hour (3+ hour drive) so I won't pick up my number until tomorrow morning - but I'm wearing my BT tri top tomorrow and I ride a yellow and black QR and I'll be with a really hot guy with curly hair.    So anyone come tell me HI!!!!

So glad to hear about the 16.2!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone's that's doing it tomorrow. This will be my first tri. I have a wetsuit but I think I'm going to try and tough it out due to the short length of the swim. I went for a swim at Navarre Beach last week with my wetsuit and it took me 10 minutes to get out of it! Definitely not worth the time. Weather looks to be about 60-65 or so for the race? Seems kind of cold to me. I'm not so much worried about being cold during the swim, because it's so short), but not being able to warm up during the ride. I tend to take a really long time to warm up. Wearing a wet spandex suit riding in 60 degree weather sounds crazy to me.

Any input to lessen my fears?

Brian

Brian,

This is a fun race and it was my first tri 5 years ago. It has a fun and friendly atmosphere. It will be cold on the swim but your right on the wetsuit, it will take longer to change then is necessary. By the time you run from the beach to transition you will be dry and you by the time you hit the bridge the first time you will be hot.

Hope to meet you tomorrow. Going to pick up packet soon and will post my BIB # later.

Ken

Hey,
I just got #65. I'm in Heat 2, Race 1. whateverthehell that means. I know I start at 0733. Anyways, I'm starting to get some nervous gitters. But I would like to meet some other BT'ers out there. There should be quite a few of us. Stop by and say hello. See you tomorrow.
