Pre-race routine:

worked on better pre-race nutrition, worked. oatmeal and gatorade pre-hydration. Get up on time, get to site early, reduce stress. have time to enjoy and meet and greet.
Event warmup:

light stretching before swim
Swim
  • 36m 12s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

generally sucked!! once again I outsmarted myself, when am I ever going to learn! folks if you have a wetsuit, wear it! I didn't and look what happened.
I brought wetsuit, hung it on the bike rack and looked at the swim and decided not to use the suit, bad me. Water was warm, swim didn;t look long so I decided to tough it out.
I was comfortable with the distance, and breathing was good, just slow.
What would you do differently?:

wear wetsuit, work more on swimming, building up on speed, oh well there is always next year
Transition 1
  • 04m 13s
Comments:

a bit longer transition than I would have liked. Didn't have any problems finding my bike, it was one of the few left!! Brought gu and food for the ride.
What would you do differently?:

nothing

  • 1h 19m 20s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 18.83 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good on the bike, no big hills, stayed aero, dranks and ate, didn't push too hard,
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

good transition, all the bikes are back now!! what a concept.

What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 58m 3s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

got run legs back quickly, settled into a comfortable even pace. walked thru water stops, drank and poured water on head and neck. Ran along with a few great folks along the way. Held enough in reserve to pick up the pace a bit towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

A bit overheated at the end hit the shade, get some fluids, short cooling swim in the pond, celebrate with felloe b/t ers and friends and hit the road.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of wearing wetsuit, more work on swim speed (got the distance down), just need experience and practice. Overall, I felt prepared for the distance, better than the 1st oly. Good challenge! 2nd oly better than the first, improvement.

Event comments:

well, marked race, good amount of volunteers and police. Good after race party. The organizers are a tri-club so I think they took all the good from their race experience and put it into a great event.

Nice race Glen...darn, too bad I didn't get to meet you.  And you had a great run too.  Man, I am looking forward to finally being able to break the 60 minute barrier for a 10-K after doing the swim and bike!  Congrats on the effort, especially under the hot conditions!
