Pre-race routine:

Freaked out because we didn't bring directions and my helpful (but geographically challenged friend) caused us to go 30 miles out of the way. I ended up at the race at 7:05 (start 7:30). The volunteers rocked! They took my bicyle and set it up in the transition area while I registered and got me to the swim start with minutes to spare. Needless to say, I had no time to panic about the swim.
Event warmup:

Running around like a chicken with it's head cut off
Swim
  • 18m 50s
  • 500 yards
  • 03m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I know looking at the time it doesn't seem that amazing but it was an excellent swim nonetheless. I wasn't tired at all and besides going off course a couple of times I was very pleased. Did lose my watch though.
Glad Tom (Tplauche) started with me, although he smoked me it was good to have a friendly face to start next to.
What would you do differently?:

Now that I have my endurance, I need to work on time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

Seems like a very slow T1, I took my time and didn't rush. Lots of hydration before the bike.
Bike
  • 42m 37s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.46 mile/hr
Comments:

The first 6 miles of the bike leg seemed to take forever. I got passed several times but wasn't afraid to pass a few myself. Felt confident on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Ride a road bike :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

gotta remember to double-tie my shoes or get some more yankz.
Run
  • 30m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I could tell I hadn't been bricking enough. Very slow to get my running legs going. I was huffing it by the end but the start really hurt my time.
What would you do differently?:

more bricks and more speed drills
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a few minutes to get my heart rate down admiring my awesome new medal :)
Enjoyed meeting all my fellow BT-ers (tplauche and Motivated). I cannot believe how much these guys rocked and this is only their second event. Way to go guys :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wasn't really in a competition mind frame. I really didn't push myself at all like I have done in the past

Event comments:

This is the best, most organized race I've done this season.
I'd rank them as follows
1. PTC-Tri
2. Hilton Head Suntrust Sprint
3. Carrollton sprint
4. Sweetwater Park Sprint

Thanks for the link.
I talked to a guy who trains with me here at Emory and he's all up for it.

Did you look at the lake temps? Think we'd need wetsuits?

Good luck with Tugaloo. I'll be thinking about you guys while I'm sipping mimosas pregame

Water temp was 66,67, & 78 over the past 3 years. Yeah, I'd want a wet suit. Or..... do one a little earlier before it gets cool say....Tugaloo.

Amy,

Congratulations on a great race! It was great to finally meet you. Sounds like the Atlanta contingent is now a hard core group of dedicated triathletes. I look forward to seeing you at future events. We need to stay in touch and organize more group workouts.

Stay motivated!
