Pre-race routine:

I have no internet in my new place and like an idiot could not remember when the registration time was so I woke up at 6 am. I had some cheerios and was out the door on my conquest to the ritzy EASTON ct.
Event warmup:

I did some quick short back anf forth runs and very minor sprinting. I was also sizing up the pretty large field. Also checked out all the hot soccer moms.

Comments:

The run start was good. I was off and in 3rd right from the start. I found an arrogant 18 or 20 year old and got right on his butt and started my draft. At about the first mile (5:42) He turns his head and says "what are you doing?, why don't you pass me already?" so I said "Thanks for the draft" and booked up this huge hill and dropped him. Hills are definitely my specialty, downhills, not so much.
Mile 2 (5:47), I am now in second. My lungs and quads were burning pretty badly but that was no comparison to how my stomach felt. I was starting to feel the pain and get the over the shoulder bug. It seemed I had two female persuers.
Mile 3 (slow enough to KILL my race!) was all up hill. At the bottom end up mile 2 is a downhill and that is where my two female persuers passed me. AH HA! Here comes the biggest hill on arun I have ever seen! My specialty! I decide to gun it up the hill. I do. Drool streams are coming off the side of my face as I split the chick pair and get a good 20 ft lead going into the top of the hill.
The finish. My downfall. The finish is a very slight downhill down and around this huge elemntary school. As I make my turn into the last quarter of a mile or so for some reason my mental strength was gone. The two chicks pass me like it's there job and some random dude passes me too. I look behinf me and there is no one else. There is also no way I am catching the three that passed me so I settle into my regular running pace for the last quarter of a mile. I finish 5th.
What would you do differently?:

This was my first 5k and I had no idea how my body would respond. The last .5 mile was my downfall no doubt. I really gave up mentally and am pretty dissapointed in myself because of it.
Post race
Warm down:

St down and got a couple of hand slaps from fellow finishers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience

Event comments:

I had masters practice to go to directly after the race. I got 5th over all and 1st in my AG so I was entitled to a trophy so it seems but I didn't stick around to claim my glorious prize.

I'm a little disappointed.  Expected to ready about you running so hard you were puking as you crossed the line.  Just kidding.  Smoking fast!  Great job.

Damn! What a race, especially for a guy that couldn't skip at the beginning of last season.

Well done, Bait. CONGRATS!
