Check your CO2 supply before your next ride.  Mine got punctured sometime over the last 12 months. I have no idea when.  I haven't had a flat in that long. But on my ride yesterday, I got a flat and would have been completely stranded if one kind dude had not stopped with me to fix it.  Luckily, his cartridge still had ooomph left in it.

So basically, this is just a friendly reminder to check your gear before your next long solo ride.  Oh, and practice good cycling Karma by helping out a guy in need. You never know when it'll be you stuck on the side of the road.

Good reminder.  You should also carry a pump on a long solo training ride.

Amen to that brother.  i had a similar issue yesterday when a Buddy of mine didn't have the elbow attachment for his CO2 cartridge.  Lucky another rider stopped to help.

Another thing to check is the inflator. During my race on Sunday I had (2) flats, when I tried to inflate it did not work. The pin that punctures the co2 had broken off...so no worky!!!!

Lucky for me, a good friend rode by, stopped his race and gave me his inflator (thanks Luke!!)

We had Mavic support as well, so they swapped wheels with me, very cool!!!

Also, carry 2 tubes with you.....

Potentially dumb question...is it dangerous to carry a 1/2 empty cartridge (with the valve thing attached, and closed tightly)?  You don't have to use the cartridge all in one fell swoop, do you??

lobstergirl - The CO2 will gradually leak out, by the time you need to use it again (assuming it's on a different ride) it'll all be gone.

ALso, if you want CO2 cartridges cheap, get them at Walmart, they're the same ones used for air guns. They're about 1/3-1/4 the price as in a tri/bike shop.

Another good reminder on this topic is that your tires will deflate on CO2 a lot quicker than when you use your pump on your tires.  They are fine to get you home which is what you need when you flat.  However, make sure to pump up your tires before your next ride (actually not a bad thing to do before every ride).

That explains so much, thankyou. I couldn't understand that overnight my tyre had gone down from 100 to 70 after fixing a flat - but I had fixed it with CO2!
