Pre-race routine:

Checked in WAY early (2 hours before start); lounged in the back of the Xterra and relaxed.
Event warmup:

Light jog and quick stroke warmup before swim
  • 05m 3s
  • 220 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I need to do lots more poolwork! The first 4 people out of the water automatically had a 2-minute lead on me. I passed two of them later on, but the two others ended up beating me by 1 and 17 seconds...if only I could've had a faster transition!
Transition 1
  • 06m 19s

This was a tough transition because you come out of the water a good 800-1000 meters away from the transition area. So you have to overcome the wobbly legs, put on your running shoes, run uphill (remember you're starting at lakefront), and then get to do your transition.
What would you do differently?:

Need to set up things differently so that they're in the order I need them. I could have used a crate to prop up my bike and carry all my gear in.
  • 17m 2s
  • 5 miles
  • 17.61 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Went out a little too hard on this and paid for it on the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m

Fast transition. I was very happy with it.
  • 16m 42s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Don't use all the water stations, or at least don't drink all the water.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched extensively

Event comments:

This is an awesome local race for a first tri. This was my first shot at one, and I'm pumped for my next one, which will be a true sprint distance.

Man my legs were wobbly! I lasted freestyle for the first 50 and then switched to breaststroke...that's when I started passing people.
Suit: None
Course: Out and back buoys. Entry and exit were from the YMCA lake area, not really a beach. There were a lot of rocks and branches to deal with getting into and out of the water...take it slow!
