Overall Rank = 980/12795

Age Group Rank = 165/946
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4am. Ate a bagel and drank 24 ounces of water. Left house @ 0445 and went to shuttle area. Got to race at 0530. Ate another bagel and had some powerbar drink. Hit the port-a-potty twice before the start.
Event warmup:

None.
Run
  • 1h 46m 27s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

165 out of 946 in my age group and 750 out of 5614 males. Hard to get into pace until about 3 or 4 mile mark due to the sheer number of people. Even though I started in coral # 3. A lot of people moved up into other corals. Humidity was 96% at the start so it felt really warm quick. Almost chocked trying to drink and run. Walked at one drink station just to get some gatorade down.
What would you do differently?:

This was my first one and also my longest run ever. Maybe have a pace partner and train more. I am pretty satisfied with the result. No where near ready for a full one yet. Put a better start time to get myself closer to the front where there is less traffic to weed through (then blow up a lot earlier). Maybe a fuel belt with several water flasks to help stay hydrated.
Post race
Warm down:

None. Cold water was given out and cold towels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and traffic. Did get a blister on my right foot from my feet being wet (pouring water over my head to keep cool did not help).

Event comments:

Very well supported and tons of spectators cheering you along. Course was nice and flat except for one bridge (not long enough to really hurt). Would love to do another.

Performance: Good
5K split 25:30; 10K split 50:45; 10 mile split 1:21:13. HR average was 165 with a max of 173. Held at around 88% max for the first half then pushed it up to 90+%. Hit a pretty hard headwind between miles 8.5 and 10.5. Had a tailwind on the final leg. Tried to push it up to 94% inside the last mile but did not have the gas.
Course: Great. There we bands playing about every two to three miles with tons of specators cheering. Course was really flat with the only bottleneck being at the start.
