Pre-race routine:

I was camping with a friend out on the river for Labor Day weekend so got ready in the dark and left camp around 5:30 in the morning. Had some OJ and a granola bar and some PB crackers. Got to the site and picked up my packet and got everything set up.
Event warmup:

Jogged about a half mile or so.
Swim
  • 11m 20s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Yea! I wasn't the last on out of the water! I am horrible at swimming, but I am actually pretty pleased with myself since I didn't swim all week and I partied on the river all weekend.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on technique. Drink less on the river.
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Wow, I had the fastest T1 time in my group. I always feel good about my transitions. I've yet to have any problems.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Bike
  • 42m 46s
  • 14.8 miles
  • 20.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Loved it! This course was made for me. I'm horrible at hills, but generally the other women are a lot worse so I was really able to gain some time here. Plus, it was just fun.
What would you do differently?:

I think I really could have taken it a little stronger, but the bike was awesome!
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Same as T1, went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 22m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I got pretty nervous because when I left T2, the announcer said that I was the second female to come off the bike and everyone started going crazy. It was kind of cool though, I felt like an olympic athlete. I should have gone stronger, I'm still running too much in a comfort zone; I shouldn't be afraid for it to hurt a little. I am surprised to see that I placed better in the water than the run. But it was a long crazy weekend so I should be thankful that I finished.
What would you do differently?:

Comfort Zones BAD!
Post race
Warm down:

Watching the guys wakeboard on the cable lake and eating a hamburger.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ha ha, getting drunk and sunburned at the river. Sleeping on a rocky ground. Listening to some guy bang on bongos at the river for hours on end.

Event comments:

Out of the 5 triathlons that I have done this summer. This one was the best. It was so much fun. The volunteers were great, the venue was great, the food was great. Plus, we got two t-shirts in our race packet. Lot's of fun, I hope I get to do it again.

Great race! Especially - as you point out - the bike segment. Sound like you had a great weekend all in all - 'specially the drinkin' part!
