Comments: Started out great with front group but my navigation just kills me. I have got to work on this. What would you do differently?: Saved alot of energy over concern for the bike but lack of good navigation kills my efficiency gains. Transition 1
Comments: Took a slow time in transition in anticipation of bike. Couldnt get the shoes to clip in and fell. Bruised left hip right thigh and left hand. What would you do differently?: Will absolutely be working on getting into the shoes on the bike vs. putting the shoes on then trying to mount and clip in. Bike
Comments: This was the hardest ride I've ever had. Having never ridden any hills there were several times on this course I didn't think I was going to get to the top without walking. When I looked down and saw 5mph I thought no way am I making it to the top. I even had a few riders from NC who were used to the hills comment to me that they found this course challenging. So I was not alone. I did pass a few riders on the inclines so that was really encouraging. Never did stop though. Descending was also challenging as you get up to 36-40mph and then have to make a sharp turn. Hit the brakes and hope you're going to slow down enough. What would you do differently?: Wish I had a granny gear. Come two weeks early and ride the mountains ;) Transition 2
Comments: Good fast transition. What would you do differently?: Still couldnt find my spot on the rack Run
Comments: Nice run considering the hills on the bike. Off road and through the woods. I really thought my legs were going to be shot. Don't know how much difference the tri-bike might have made in saving my legs for the run but I felt relatively strong. What would you do differently?: Maybe drink a little more water but the temperature outside was cool so I felt good. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Going uphill. Event comments: I knew going into this race it was going to be a challenge as I have no hill riding experience. This race though made me feel like I had accomplished something I didnt think I could. So despite the fact that my legs were completely battered for two days following this race the overall sense of success was worth it. As far as good feelings go nothing to date tops this race. Recommend it to all my friends :) Last updated: 2004-09-08 12:00 AM
