Subject: I'm Doing This!
Hi Everyone!

OK, I'm officially doing this. I'm posting on the forum. There's no turning back now!

I'm going to do my first triathlon in August and I can't wait. I know I have so much work to do, but I am looking forward to it.

About me: I live in Indiana. I am 31, married with two wonderful sons (4 and 1). I have always been athletic - grew up playing softball, volleyball, cheerleading. In college I tried a few times to get into running but I really just hated it and it never stuck. I was finally able to complete a 1/2 marathon in 2001, but I ended up walking most of it. Since then I've been pregnant or sleep-deprived trying to take care of my boys! My husband got into tri a couple of years ago and is completely hooked. He did his first 1/2 Ironman last summer and is as addicted as ever. I really wanted to try this sport out when he started but I was pregnant that summer. Last summer I was still 'recovering' from having my second child. I'm all out of excuses this year!

After lots of work, I can now run decently. I am running in my second 1/2 Marathon tomorrow morning and expect to be able to run the majority of it this time. I think I'll like the bike. I don't even own a bike yet so I can't say how I'll be! But, I get on the bikes at my gym and enjoy it. So I'm hopeful once I get my bike I'll be okay on that. Swimming........well, swimming is another story. I swim well enough so that I don't drown. I don't even jump in a pool without holding my nose anymore! Lots of swimming work to do. Lots. Did I mention I need to work on my swim? Really nervous, no, not even nervous, more like embarrassed about my lack of swimming skills.

Besides having my husband to get advice from, I am doing a triathlon training class at the YMCA I work at. That is how my husband got started. We have our first training session in two weeks, but I am supposed to get together with the coach to do time trials and get videotaped running and (gulp) swimming. I threatened that if my swimming tape appears on You Tube I would hunt her down and she would pay!

Looking forward to talking with all of you! Thanks!

Welcome and good luck with your training!  I'm just now trying to sort out how to squeeze training time into taking care of my family, but hopefully we'll both be able to figure it out. How cool that you work at the Y, I'm jealous!

Thanks autumn and dylanslovey!

Finding the time to fit in the training will definitely be the biggest challenge......I think! It will be well worth it though. My 4 year old already talks about wanting to do races like his daddy, so hopefully I'll be setting a great example for them also. I think my 4 year old has enough energy to do a triathlon already! He actually ran a one-mile kids run last fall. Maybe he is the one setting an example.

Good luck to you both!

Welcome aboard and I promise not to hold the Indiana thing against you.  As a Buckeye that can be a bad thing.  J/K  I hope you enjoy this and before you know you will be kicking your hubbies butt.  Congrats on joining.

Thanks, buckeye66! I guess I can overlook the fact that you are a Buckeye fan. (I was pulling for you guys against Florida! Both times.) I have a good friend here in Bloomington from Ohio and we have fun teasing each other.

I would soooooo love to kick the hubby's butt! That would be too much fun!

welcome aboard. i prommise i'll be nice even with a Buckeye and Hoosier in the thread (go HAWKS). let me say california may not have the hospitality of the mid-west but the weather is much better for training. i sounds like you already have the best advantage any of us can have in a supportive family. with that im certain even a none swimmer can learn. good luck and dont give up on swimming. i can be very relaxing i swear
