Subject: I'm Doing This!Hi Everyone!
OK, I'm officially doing this. I'm posting on the forum. There's no turning back now!
I'm going to do my first triathlon in August and I can't wait. I know I have so much work to do, but I am looking forward to it.
About me: I live in Indiana. I am 31, married with two wonderful sons (4 and 1 ). I have always been athletic - grew up playing softball, volleyball, cheerleading. In college I tried a few times to get into running but I really just hated it and it never stuck. I was finally able to complete a 1/2 marathon in 2001, but I ended up walking most of it. Since then I've been pregnant or sleep-deprived trying to take care of my boys! My husband got into tri a couple of years ago and is completely hooked. He did his first 1/2 Ironman last summer and is as addicted as ever. I really wanted to try this sport out when he started but I was pregnant that summer. Last summer I was still 'recovering' from having my second child. I'm all out of excuses this year!
After lots of work, I can now run decently. I am running in my second 1/2 Marathon tomorrow morning and expect to be able to run the majority of it this time. I think I'll like the bike. I don't even own a bike yet so I can't say how I'll be! But, I get on the bikes at my gym and enjoy it. So I'm hopeful once I get my bike I'll be okay on that. Swimming........well, swimming is another story. I swim well enough so that I don't drown. I don't even jump in a pool without holding my nose anymore! Lots of swimming work to do. Lots. Did I mention I need to work on my swim? Really nervous, no, not even nervous, more like embarrassed about my lack of swimming skills.
Besides having my husband to get advice from, I am doing a triathlon training class at the YMCA I work at. That is how my husband got started. We have our first training session in two weeks, but I am supposed to get together with the coach to do time trials and get videotaped running and (gulp ) swimming. I threatened that if my swimming tape appears on You Tube I would hunt her down and she would pay!
Looking forward to talking with all of you! Thanks! |
