Comments:

It wa a snake swim with each swimmer turning a time in pre-race. I turned in the 6th fastest time so I was the 6th one in the water. They started a new swimmer every 15 secs.
What would you do differently?:

Practice doing flip turns under a lane line to the left...Im used to going right off the wall.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I dont remember taking my goggles off and have no idea where they went to. I might have dropped them on the pool deck....It wasn't until this point that it hit me...Hey get your but moving this is a race!!! I came out of the pool and ran outside into the transition area and started to towel off. One of my coaches came flying out side grabbed his bike and was gone!! I immediately threw my towel down put my bike shoes on and was gone.
What would you do differently?:

Dont worry aboout drying off...just grab my gear and go next time

Comments:

I got off to a good start on my bike. I was cold for the 1st half as I was wet and it was 40 degrees out. Once i got into my rythem I was fine though. I definately could have pushed a little harder on this portion. I got to watch my coaches pass me like I was standing still. Each one of them yelled out "great job Tom!! Keeping pumping!!!" The wind gusts really slowed me down. At one point I checked my computer and was cruising comfortably at 20 mph and a gust blew and dropped my speed right down to 14 mph.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more outside and include hill work outs and maybe get a few rides in when it is windy. Most of my bike training was done on my trainer and spin classes.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 was very good for me. I got to see 3 of my friends from my tri training group transitioning to their bike. We gave each other alot of encouragement as we were transitioning.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 32m
  • 3.2 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good run considering I needed to run alot more in training. I am shocked that I ran a 10 min mile pace. In the beginning it felt like it was about a 15 min mile pace!!!
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the run. Incoorporate a few more brick workouts.

Event comments:

Considering this was my 1st race I'ld have to assume that it was well organized. I am very pleased with my over all time of 1:14:00 as I was shooting for under 1 1/2 hours and I did it!!! it was a lot of fun!
