Swim
Comments: The good news is that I didn't get caught in the buoys this time! The bad news is that there was only 2 minutes between the guy's start and our start. So, we caught up to some the guys pretty quickly, and spent the rest of the swim trying to get around people rather than actually swimming. I only got to really swim for the first 100 meters, and the last 100 meters. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 1
Comments: This transition was good. It felt so great to have my mom there cheering me on. So, I had this huge grin on my face throughout the transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: This is a PR for my bike time. I tried to push my legs to see how they would do, and they held out okay. This course was so much fun because you get to see people the entire time. It's also really flat. I like flat. As usual, many people passed me, but not quite as many as usual! What would you do differently?: Push a little harder. I had it in me, but wasn't sure. Transition 2
Comments: It was a speedy transition. Again, having my mom there cheering me on was a motivator. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: And then there was the run. I just have to settle in, and cheer on everyone as they zoom on past. I did catch one guy. That was a miracle. For me, this was a good run. Again, as I was rounding the corner, my mom was yelling. So, I picked up the pace and finished strong. What would you do differently?: I should have pushed harder sooner. I didn't start picking up the pace until the last .5 mile. But, hey, it's running. I'm happy that I did it. Post race
Warm down: Found my mom. Ate some food. Did some stretching. Put my gear away. Headed to the awards ceremony. Found "Tizzy" as they were starting to give away the free stuff. As they were about to give away the bike she said, "Hold on, I need to go and pick up my bike". I started laughing and stood up too. The lady was calling out the race number that won the free bike really slowly. 1...(so far, so good)4...(hey, what do you know, I'm still in it)...6. Huh? That's me! I won! I went up. Got my picture taken with the bike shop guy. He then told me that I could use the bike as credit towards another bike. So, I'm going to do that. What limited your ability to perform faster: Eh. Doesn't matter. I had fun. I won a bike! Thanks, Tizzy for encouraging me to sign up for the race. I owe you a beer...or several! Event comments: This is a great venue. With amazing views along the run course. It's really safe too because it is on the Marine base. So, traffic is stopped, and everything is really well marked. I would highly recommend this race. Got up. Ate a banana and an English muffin with peanut butter. Drove over to the Marine base with my mom. Set up. Walked around. Talked with some friends.
Stood knee deep in the water, splashed myself a bit.
