Swim
Comments: My pace was pretty fast and I felt pretty good, but near the end I got held up in traffic and lost 5-10 seconds. What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done differently this time. I did learn my lesson from last week and made sure that I kept swimming right up to the wall so I did not lose momentum. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty well. I did not crash into the doorway like I did last week, nor did I lose my swim cap like I also did last week. What would you do differently?: Since I have to undo one of the velcro straps (in addition to the buckle) on my bike shoes to put them on with wet feet, I need to remember to open them up before the race starts. Overall though, I probably only lost 2-3 seconds not having done that beforehand. Bike
Comments: The bike course is where I really started to feel like crap. I'm not really strong on hills, so I started suffering right away. Also, on some of the downhills I "chickened out" and sat up with my hands on the brake levers, since the roads were so wet. I also need to replace the tires on my bike, so I'm not very confident on wet roads or on fast corners. What would you do differently?: More hill work, get new tires for the bike. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went great. After looking at some pictures from last week, I realized that I had taken my feet out of the shoes and pedaled with them on top, but then I came to a complete stop before getting off the bike. This week I swung my right leg over the bike so I was just standing on the left pedal, and when I got to the dismount point I did a flying dismount and ran right over to my rack. A quick change of shoes, ditch the helmet, grab the fuel belt and I was off in less than 40 seconds! What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done differently this time, things went exactly as planned. Run
Comments: More suffering! I need to run more hills (in addition to working on my overall speed). Post race
Warm down: Right after I finished, I noticed that my friend Kevin was out on the bike course (he started well after me in the pool), so after packing up my stuff I waited for him to come in for T2. I then went over and hung out with some of the folks from my club (Landry's), then saw Kevin finish the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: I didn't feel as strong as I did at last week's race, so I'm thinking that racing back-to-back weekends is too much for me at this point. For that reason, I've decided to skip the Timberman sprint, which is the week before the Cranberry Olympic race. Last updated: 2007-03-26 12:00 AM

I picked my friend Kevin up around 6:20am and we got to the race site about 15 minutes later. I was very lucky in that my transition spot was right near the exit, and since I was so early I got the spot on the very end. Kevin was right across the row from me but back a few rows.
Since the race was at a health club I jumped on an ellitpical machine right before my start, but the club staff made me get off it because I did not have any shoes. So, I just went in to the pool area and got in line.
