Pre-race routine:

got up at 4 and tried to get back to sleep unitl 5:30. Overslept and got up and out the door at 5:45. It's only 15 minutes from my home and the race wasn't until 7:45. At a bar in the car and met up with my friend Anita at another fellow trainees home right down the road. I was a bit frazzled cause i really like ot get to the event early. Set up transition which was very crowded.
Event warmup:

Swam 10 minutes
Swim
  • 11m 7s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought this swim was just ok. I had trouble sighting and bilateral breathing. and there wasn't any current.
What would you do differently?:

train a bit more
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Ugh...I had a bad T1...I felt all over the place nad things of mine were pushed around by other racers. Pretty frustrating. I also had trouble getting on my socks!
What would you do differently?:

Learn to ride/run without socks
Bike
  • 35m 39s
  • 10.5 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I really was hurting on this ride. I had done a bunch of leg work this prior week and I need to stop that during racing season. I can tell it hurt my ability to do better. Live and learn
What would you do differently?:

get out on my bike more adn train
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

So I get backto my rack and there is another bike in my space. made it very hard for me to re-rack and wasted a few moments putting it up. Otherwise I was fairly fast.
Run
  • 20m 44s
  • 2.6 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I actually used to train this path so I am glad I knew the route. It was not too hot which made it really easy to run faster. I ssaw a ton of fellow trainees and cheered them on and then pushed it hard into the last leg of the finish
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, saw friends

What limited your ability to perform faster:

jsut need to keep training

Event comments:

I like this race and would definatley do it again. I do think transition area could have been better oragnaized though and monitored. Peopel were major space hogs and it got very confusing when setting up

Jamie, nice job finishing another race.  Seems like you are learning a little bit more each time you race.  I've done the Publix races last year.  Did the du's because of a shoulder injury.  You get some sweet stuff in your goody bag.  I've always found that there distances are off, on both the run and bike.  In smaller races like this you do get the problems you faced in transtions.  You have to just pray you get next to some good people who aren't going to knock your stuff around and then rack there bike in your spot.  Its all happened to me.
