Total Time = 1h 31m 41s
Overall Rank = 27/303
Age Group = 31-34
Age Group Rank = 5/24
Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate some oatmeal and a banana, drove to the race

Event warmup:

Rode 4 miles, ran about 1/2 mile, swam 100m
Swim
  • 15m 46s
  • 966 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started out as agreat swim. I passed 5 people in the first 100 yards. My sighting was great the first part of the swim, hugging the buoys, passing a ton of people. As I made the turnaround and started coming in, it went downhill. I got off course a bit and began to tire. I still finished well, tied for the second fastet time on my age group. I thought that my time was slow overall, but was pleased with the result.
What would you do differently?:

I think the course was longer than 0.6 miles. The times across the board wwere slower than last years. I feel great about the first 75% of the swim, and the last bit was pretty average
Transition 1

Comments:

Went well. Had about 150 yard uphill to T1. I was a little slow getting the suit off. I just got it unzipped as I got to the bike. I got the wetsuit off 1 leg easily and struggled for a few extra seconds getting the second leg off. Got bike shoes on easily and got onto the bike. I did not wear socks which saved me some time

NO SOCKS is a good thing
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 45m 51s
  • 16 miles
  • 20.94 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt like I rode hard, but my times aren't getting any faster. I told myself after the last race to push a bit harder, and I did. It was a hard course, no huge hills, but never flat. I don't think I could have gone much faster though.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 49s
Comments:

I forgot my race belt. Changed shoes quickly, again no socks worked well. I had put my race belt inside my hat. When I got to my spot, my neighbor had racked his bike right on top of my stuff, and his front wheel was sitting on my bag. I reached for it and it was stuck. It wasn't that hot, so I just left it. About 100 yards out, I realized I didn't have my race belt
What would you do differently?:

Set my race belt on top of my shoes so there is no wasy to forget it
Run
  • 27m 41s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

The run went great. My goal was to run 29 minutes. The first mile I felt good, feeling like it was probably 7-7:15. When I hit the marker at 6:39 I was shocked. I told myself to slow a bit. The next mile was very hilly with a long hill coming and going. Felt good at the turn, although I didn't drink much water. I really wanted to stop and get some more, but I thought I could make it 2 more miles. Mile 3 was back up the smae hill, but felt good in 7:13. Again, very little water at the last stop, but I was going to gut it out. I picked it up a bit the last 1/2 mile and passed several people . Finished feeling really good and when I checked my run split felt even better coming in at 27:41.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I did get one small blister from not wearing socks, but worth it
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, ate the best chocolate doughnut I've had in a while and 2 pieces of crappy pizza. Grabbed a bottle of powerade and loaded up for the ride home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing. I think this was one of my most solid races yet, as far as feeling really good about the swim, bike, and run

Event comments:

This was a very well organized race, especially for a smaller race. Good course markings, lots of volunteers. Plenty of aid stations on the run, good post race refreshments

The thing that really pissed me off was that I lost my timing chip at some point so I have no official time. When I put my wetsuit on, I double checked it and it was fine. When I got out of the water, I noticed that I didn't beep going over the mat. When I took the wetsuit off, the strap was still there,so I didn't think too much about it. When I finished the run, they took off the strap but there wasn't a chip on it. I would have finished 5 in the age group. That just left a sour taste in my mouth, otherwise,it would have been a great day.
