Don't think peanut butter is the way to go if you are looking for low calories. I am, however, a big fan of the stuff and put it on everything from bananas to ice cream to pancakes....

You might also consider lean meats (turkey, etc.), egg whites, and/or reduced fat cottage cheese if you are looking for lower calorie content. I'm sure others will chime in with additional suggestions.

Bon appetit!

I wouldn't sweat protien intake too much...unless you're starving, you are getting enough. Now what is optimal is debatable. Short comparison:

PB(2T) = 210 cals, 16g fat, 6carbs, 8protein
Black beans(1C) = 227c, 1f, 41c, 15p
brown rice (1C) = 216c, 2f, 45c, 5p
wheat bread(1slice) = 78c, 2f, 15c, 3p

I love PB!!

The short answer is no, it is not the Really bad fat...but it is a lot of fat for such a small serving.

Peanut butter rocks - especially if you want a "fast food." But, in what context are you eating pb? It can fit easily into a well-balanced meal plan. What's your peanut butter goal?

In general, no. Peanut butter is mainly monounsaturated fat, which is the same good kind found in olive oil, avocados, etc. This is assuming you're talking natural peanut butter (only made of peanuts and salt). The mass brands, from my experience, tend to have some trans-fat. And stay away from low fat peanut butter! It may be lower in fat, but the calories are the same, in addition to being sweetened with confectioner's sugar (which full fat versions don't have).

I remember when I was a kid, my uncle used to eat peanut butter and butter sandwiches.  I guess that's not low fat though, eh?

I love peanut, almond, or cashew butter.  I eat them on wheat with banana.

Check the label of the peanut butter before you buy.  Some have added hydrogenated oils, which is bad fat.  Look for labels that list nothing but peanuts.

I'm certainly no expert. But to hear someone say "I wouldn't sweat protein intake too much" is just crazy.

Your muscles need protein. I would venture to say that most people don't get enough protein in their diets.

I've recently starting drinking homemade protein shakes. - a little protein powder, soy milk, ice and blueberries. My current favorite. Get a hand mixer and they are very easy to make. And tasty!!

Hey, I'm just saying, there are no reported "protein deficiency" health problems cited unless that person is starving. I then go on to note that
"Now what is optimal is debatable."
. This is because I've heard recommendations ranging from the meger 3g/day (this is the amount a normal non-active person loses per day, more active people are more efficient and some studies show they actually lose less) to amounts greater than 2g/lb body weight. So, what is optimal for athletic performance is debatable. I, for example, eat about 50g protein a day and weigh 170lbs or 77kg - I'm quite healthy.
