Subject: What is your longest BRICK for an HIM?
Have been looking at a number of plans trying to figure out where to stop my BRICK training sessions for my upcoming Antwerp HIM. According to the training plan I pieced together I'll end up doing a 2 hour (62km) / 1 hour (13km) BRICK about three week out from my race. Is that enough?

How does that fit in with your experiences?

Thanks.

I've never gone more than 6 miles or 45 minutes after biking (varying distances up to 70 miles). My coaches felt it wasn't worth the risk of injury to go further as I was already running on fatigued legs.

I did a 42mi/4.6 mi brick yesterday.  Have plans for 50/5 and 60/6 bricks 5 and 3 weeks before my first HIM.  These are in addition to longer rides of 50-70 miles.

I'm interested in seeing what others are doing too.

My coach has me do up to 45' runs after long rides of 50-75 miles.

Same reason someone else said risk on injury & fatigue why not running longer.

Crashed bad in bike race today not sure  I'll be doing my HIM.

Kathy - sorry to hear about your crash, hope you are not too banged up and you heal fast. Which HIM were you planning on running? You could always come to Antwerp - I have already scoped out the best B&Bs.

Based on y'alls comments, it looks like I could (should) extend the bike portion, but cut back the run to about 45 min.

Thanks

I do a similar length bricks - 3-4 hour bike and up to 1 hour run.  My last brick is 2 weeks out from the race.  This weekend I have planned my last brick - :20 run / 2:30 bike / :20 run.   The second run is at race pace.  The bike is split up between IM pace (mid z2) and 1/2 IM pace (high z2-z3).

There are definite advantages to biking longer, but few advantages to running longer than 1 hour after biking.

I've got a 3 hour bike/1 hour run scheduled next week and that's as long as it gets.  This should get me 50 miles on the bike and around 6.5 miles running.  Not all of the run will be at my planned HIM pace.

I'm looking forward to it... treating it as a good fitness marker/confidence builder for my first HIM race.

i did 3 or 4 40/8 and one 45/10 this spring in prep for eagleman. and countless 25/5 bricks...ok not countless but at least once a week since Jan. But I love doing bricks. I did PR EagleMan by 37 minutes on Sunday...of course the weather was ideal too...

I did what I call mental bricks which is to complete 1 of the 2 sports and 1/2 of the other like :

Bike 90 km Run 11 Km  or

Bike 45 km Run 21 Km

Just my 2 cents.

HIM is not until the end of Sept but for the OLY I just did last weekend, my coach had me do a double brick of 17 mile bike, 2 mi run, 17 mile bike 2 mile run with a goal of negative splits.

Keep in mind there is always more than one way to skin a cat.

I am doing a HIM in 9 days. I have a 60 mile bike tomorrow and I have a combo brick 7 days out of 15 mile B/and 3 mile R in Zone 3.  Nothing major but will keep me loose.  I also have three days off that same week of taper.

After that the rest of the week is just checking out the race site on Thur/Fri. Off Wed/Sat.
