Swim
Comments: I was really panicky about the race, right up until the gun went off and then I just started swimming. I ended up wandering off course a bit, but not too much, I think. What would you do differently?: Practice more open water swims. More LONG open water swims are very necessary before Morden. Transition 1
Comments: Very long run from the swim to where the bikes were kept. Bike
Comments: Legs were really tired when I first got on the bike. I must have kicked a hell of a lot more than usual on the swim. (I usually hardly kick at all.) First lap was the slowest and then rest were a lot better once my legs started feeling better. Hips were really sore by the end. Hip flexxors were starting to yell at me a bit, but I gaver shit throughout. I had not put my bike computer on, so I was mostly biking by feel. I kept passing and getting passed by a very smelly man. Every time he passed me, I'd choke on his nasty B.O. grrr I tried to drink regularly on the bike and ate a Clif bar that I had broken into pieces before hand. Popped about 3 sport beans in my mouth near the end. What would you do differently?: Bike a lot more before. Nothing I would do differently from what I did on the race course. More long bike rides needed! Transition 2
Comments: Quick T2. Ran out of there thinking I had forgotten something, but I hadn't. Run
Comments: I kept a precise, steady pace throughout my run. I took in water or Gatorade at each station, and just walked whilst drinking. Very happy with this run since I think it was my best 10k time ever. What would you do differently?: nothing. Post race
Warm down: wandered about, searching for post-race snacks, loaded bikes onto car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training time. Event comments: I didn't mind that we had to do so many laps, since I used that to check to see if I was keeping on pace and on plan with the bike and the run. The BOP isn't as crowded as the FOP or MOP during this race, since the Sprint and try-a-tri distance people came and went as I was still working at it. I had a great time doing this race.
